pancakes and a little bit of honesty

okay, so on more careful inspection i've discovered that the W. Sonoma pancake/waffle mix has candied pecans and not walnuts. i made pancakes this morning and added a handful of dark chocolate chips to the batter - yummy nummy!!! so good in fact that i just ate two with my hands. didn't need any syrup. even the ones i over- cooked (read: burned) were tasty. i should warn you the mix is pretty pricey (a dollar an once) but it comes in a really cute orange tin with a knob on top and is seasonal, so i must recommend it anyhow! there's a discount if you buy two, but they're kinda heavy at one lb. each. i promise i'll stop raving about pumpkin food by december.

with a hair update: i've gotten a wide array of responses so far. everything from, "did you get your hairs cut?" to "oh my gosh, you should've called first to warn me, i'm in shock!" one week from the chopping date i'm totally used to it. i forget that i look any different and keep on wondering why friends are staring at me. my dry time is soo fast (woo hoo!) and bed head is a thing of the past! :)

oh, i must share a student story with you. monday morning i'm in my classroom working at my computer and my two adorible chinese students wander in on their way to breakfast (as is their habit each day). these two are cousins, one boy and one girl, and are in kindergarten. they've been in school for two months and have two months worth of english. they're doing very very well, and their vocabulary is growing quickly. at any rate, when they enter my room and see me sitting there w/ short hair, in unison they sing, "Uh oh!", as they stand frozen in my doorway, wide-eyed. i beckon them in and ask if they like it. she says, "i don't know." he says, "no." and shakes his head. i ask her again, and she has now decided that she doesn't like my new look either. we all giggle. i love the honesty from 5 year olds! :)

speaking of honesty, here's my mom's response:
we were talking on the phone~

me: i got my hair cut short.
mom: oh, is it like it was a few years ago?
me: ya, pretty much.
mom: i didn't like that hair cut and didn't it give you pimples?
me: no, i don't remember that. i liked it.
mom: oh, well at least it's not frizzy anymore, right?
me: do you mean curly, mom? no, it's not curly anymore.
mom: i didn' t like it frizzy like you had it.
me: do you mean when i had it curly? i think it's more kind to say curly. no one wants to have frizzy hair, mom.
mom: oh, well curly then.
me: ya, it's kinda mean to tell someone they have frizzy hair.
mom: well, i guess i'm getting mean in my old age.
me: you don't have to like my new hair cut. i like it.
mom: you're right. i don't get my hair cut based on what other people want either. i get it cut the way i like it.
me: okay then.

some things never change... she did end up saying that it looked nice when she did finally see it. she does try. ;)

Garsh, I haven't seen your new haircut! Do you match your pictures at the Strong Museum again?

it's not that short. the museum photos were from my grad school days.
this style is reminiscent of my autumn 2003 look (about chin length). ;)
