odds and ends
hair:
so it's not quite what i was after, but it's close enough. as far as coming home disappointed w/ a new hair-do - this wasn't so bad. it's definitely something different, reminds me a bit of october 2003, only shorter and less flapper-like. wash and dry time will be much quicker. i've spooked myself in window reflections a couple of times already. i hope that soon this will feel like me. the super good news is that when i woke up today it looked the same as when i went to sleep. if this style is really bed-head proof, i may just have to keep it for life! ;)
autumn:
on another note, i just adore watching the golden leaves out my windows. i'm loving how they dance in the breeze and sparkle with the sunlight streaming through them. autumn is beautiful. i just walked to a nearby church for their sunday service and had the chance to tromp through piles of leaves on my way there. the wind sure is swirling them around today. bliss! have i mentioned that i'm crazy about all things pumpkin? it's true. pumpkin soup, pie, muffins, lattes, cookies, cake, bread, candy, custard... you name it, if they make it in pumpkin, i'm all over it! anyone wanna share any good pumpkin finds lately? pleeze??!!
music:
am listening to and loving Madeleine Peyroux's new album called "Half the perfect world". novio treated me to a trip to Albany last weekend to hear her in concert at The Egg - what fun! she looks nothing like she sounds and her movement doesn't match her tone either, but none the less, she was marvelous! The Egg was a really neat concert space (loved the acoustics and the shape and feel of it) and our seats were perfect! I recommend both the artist and the venue.
food:
just made a yummy-nummy red (they look orange in the bag and turn yellow when you cook them) lentil dish. a friend from work recommended these lentils and then put some in my birthday treat bag. i cooked them up w/ garlic, onions, cumin, curry, peppadews, cilantro, water, salt, pepper, and oil. delish! and pretty easy. there's a recipe on the back of the goya bag and i of course modified it a bit.
also made some quick and yummy kasha w/ asparagus, carrots, and grape tomatoes. i love having the time and energy to cook. my apartment is smelling good today! :)

pumpkin faves:
pumpkin spice coffee from bruegger's
pumpkin custard from abbotts
generously salted, roasted pumpkin seeds
and of course... the most Fantastic Food in my personal universe... my mom's pumpkin pie.
I know not the details of how to make this magical dessert, for i am a mere mortal and not worthy to look upon the recipe card. I have overheard things like "it uses sweetened condensed milk", but i know not what this means...
i do, however, know how to eat it. The piece of pie must be layered in cool whip of a volume equivalent to the actual pie- all fork-fulls must be 49% pumpkin, 49% cool whip, and 2% is of course the crust.
I can speak no longer of these wonders, for it is too much for me to bear.
I will now splash cold water on my face and eat some rice cakes..
mmmmmmmmmmm!!! pumpkin pie - yes, it's the ultimate! this is my official "favorite food" too.
i adore (yes, adore) abbott's pumpkin custard! haven't had the pleasure of roasted pumpkin seeds in some time - will have to make some soon.
just discovered a pumpkin walnut pancake/waffle mix at William Sonoma - sounds great, but i haven't had time to use it yet. i'll let you know...
Dave, thanks so much for sharing in my pumpkin delight. :)
Love Madeleine Peyroux! She has another older album too (which I think is better).
i like both albums. :)
