tender-hearted
So late last week we were reading about the history of Mexico and the battle of Puebla (between Mexico and France) the victory of which led to Mexico celebrating Cinco de mayo. We made yarn ofrenda patterns and did a little dancing to some Mexican music. Today my little seven year old Roberto goes back to his classroom and his teacher there says, "We're going to be talking about Cinco de mayo." He walks up to her and whispers, "Did you hear about the French?"
Poor dear, he's worried about all the soldiers that died and we're trying to get him to celebrate this Mexican holiday for independence. What mixed messages when we've just finished our long unit on "Peace" a few weeks earlier. sigh.
